Yes. VIN is optional. If a VIN is present, we decode it against NHTSA's free vPIC database for a sanity check. Without one, the report works from year, make, model, trim, mileage, title — everything else still runs.

Typically 60–90 seconds from tapping Generate to the finished report. Some thin listings finish in 30s; complex multi-photo uploads occasionally hit 120s.

Private-party listings — Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist, OfferUp, Cars.com private listings. Dealer listings work but the value is lower because dealers have already cleaned the description and removed the cheapest comps.

Yes. We've tested across body styles. The richer the model has online (forums, recalls, repair-cost data), the deeper the report. Mainstream models get the deepest reports — niche imports are still useful but lighter on known-issue specifics.

Yes. Every report exports as a PDF and shares via the standard iOS share sheet. There's also an inspection-sheet variant designed to print and bring to the shop.

$3.99 per single report. $12.99 for the Shopping Pass (10 reports, 30 days = $1.30 effective each). One-time purchases via Apple. No subscription, no accounts.

It's anchored to coffee. Cheap enough that the right decision (run the report) feels obvious. We want this priced below the time you'd waste driving to see a listing that's wrong.

Pass credits expire after 30 days. Single reports don't expire — once generated, the report stays on your device until you delete it.

Refunds for in-app purchases go through Apple — submit at reportaproblem.apple.com. We don't have Apple-side access to refund directly.

Yes, the model can be wrong. That's why every model-level claim is tagged verified, likely, or possible in the Evidence Log, and why we don't promise accuracy. Confirm critical claims before you buy.

Don't. Trust the evidence. We tag each claim with a confidence level and link to the public sources we grounded against. If a claim isn't sourced, it isn't load-bearing.

Repair-cost ranges are anchored to typical regional ranges for that job. Anchor math is deterministic (mileage + title status), not invented by the model. Known-issue claims cite owner forums and repair databases. The AI does composition, not invention.

No. VINly is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or partnered with Facebook, Marketplace, Meta, Cars.com, AutoTrader, CarGurus, or any other listing platform. We work with screenshots you upload — we never log in or scrape.

Screenshots are sent only for the duration of the ~90-second report generation and are not retained on our servers. Reports themselves live on your device. No accounts, no advertising IDs, no third-party tracking.

No. Anthropic doesn't train on API traffic by default, and we don't fine-tune on user inputs. Your screenshots aren't used to improve any model.

No. We have no advertising business and no data-sharing partners.

Delete the app to delete every report on your device. Because we don't retain screenshots or store reports server-side, there is no server-side account to delete. To scrub purchase-related logs, email support@vinly.dev.

Yes, at launch. iPhone running iOS 17 or later. The app works on iPad in iPhone-app mode but the layout isn't iPad-native.

No. The report is for reading, not glancing — both surfaces are wrong for that.

The app shell loads offline, and your existing reports are readable offline. Generating a new report requires a network connection (we call Anthropic + NHTSA).
